Shinjuku and others

April 12, 2009

I watched the Shinjuku Incident yesterday. I had, for some unknown reason, thought that it was about the Tokyo subway terror incident. Quite a tragic story with a strong sense of foreboding throughout. I kept worrying that someone was going to get mutilated again after Daniel Wu got his face slashed and hand chopped off. I thought they wanted to fry his head too when they pushed him to his chestnut cart. I DON’T have the stomach for this…

But the story was good and moving. I was kept on my toes in the roomy Film Garde Theatre 5 in ILUMA, the newest spanking mall in Singapore. I felt sad for the characters and the verse “those who live by the sword die by the sword” (Matthew 26:52) kept ringing in my mind. These things do happen in real life…and even worse ones. Isn’t it sad? And some people have little choice, being thrust into these at a tender age. Sad. Sad. Maybe that’s why I woke up feeling a tat heavy this morning. (But hey, regardless, this is resurrection Sunday, the reason for hope.)

It was a decidedly Chinese food day yesterday. I had lunch in Fei Cui Crystal Jade with 2 friends who came back from Shanghai — one of whom commented on my 2nd puberty. (yes, I have been plagued!!!) Then I had eight treasures ginger dessert in Central after aqua aerobics. For dinner, it was noodles in QQ. All very delicious. And aqua aerobics was quite fun, especially cycling on “the noodle”. I had this image of the silhouette of ET as he cycled pass the moon flash across my mind.

Friday night, I had very vivid dreams. I heard 2 very beautiful songs in a big cave with frescos and many people from different countries. I told myself I wanted to remember the tune and lyrics but they eluded me when I woke up. There was also this episode where I was hanging at the side of the ship precariously. I got there because I went too far out to take a picture when the ship swerved. I knew I have to hang on till help comes else I’ll fall and hit the hard bottom. I was actually quite calm and there was someone beside me who went to seek help. But when the person came back, strangely I now saw through this person’s eyes, I had already jumped onto a lifeboat that came by and had disappeared. Anyway, free adventures in my dream…not bad!

Coffee and sweet tweets

Coffee in the afternoon, sleep at night ruined.
Tweet beforehand, (to be continued…)

tweety & garfield

November 26, 2008

So many thoughts in a day. Maybe I should start counting them. But once I start counting, it will affect the number of thoughts. How? The Schrödinger’s cat meows.

Leaving cats aside, let’s ponder a bit about birds, eagles and turkeys in particular. For example eagles let the winds of a storm carry them higher than they can go on their own, while the turkeys look for shelter and hide when there is a storm. Someone just mentioned that turkeys are also known to be silly and vain. Hmmm…I wonder what that means. Do turkeys linger in front of mirrors for an inordinate amount of time?

Anyway, I’ll group this under “food”…not kosher of course…(incidentally, this illustrates how difficult classification can be…)

Same same

August 13, 2008

People actually search for “wisha wisha”. I know because someone was referred to my blog through searching for that. This is truly long-tail. All types in the world…ALL TYPES. Maybe there is someone almost like me out there. How do I find you?

Discovered a nice mood restaurant at Central yesterday: Ma Maison. Like the ambience, service, music and food. Birthday girl/boy gets a free cheesecake too. My skirt happened to look like the table cloth right?

Of Zanzibar & Widgeo

July 12, 2008

A friend is going to Tanzania to stay for a while. Fancy that! That’s the land where you can find the unique blue/purple mineral Tanzanite. And that’s where you have Zanzibar…you know, “pearls of Zanzibar”, which you can find in Robinsons…and Tin Tin has been there too.

So we farewelled the friend over a dinner at Gluttons Bay with fireworks and much fanfare, courtesy of the National Day Parade Organising Committee and taxpayers. When the ashes started to rain on us, we adjourned to 爱琴海民歌餐厅 at Marina Square. So we sipped the milk tea with the not-so-shiok not-big-enough pearls while listening to the ballads, sharing tales of accidental (or not) animal killings: one put her pet tadpole into a jar of copper sulphate solution thinking that it would be a pretty sight…

Earlier in the afternoon, I was at an unconference organised by E27. Saw several useful applications. Looking to buy a home? Check out homespace. Want to know how to get to one place from another? Come to GoThere. And good shopping deals? Udrool. Widgeo.us and Wobile sounded promising too. Wunderbar Web 2.0!

Sea cucumber and dragonfly

July 5, 2008

The sea cucumber is in the Echinoderm family, together with the sea urchin and the starfish. They are considered to be “more evolved” because, like homosapiens, the first hole that is formed in the embryo is the asshole. Yes, we started off as assholes. So I learned to my rather great amusement on Saturday, over a cosy wedding dinner in Hilltop Garden Restaurant in Bukit Batok Civil Service Club.

One of the most intimate wedding dinners I have been to. Beautiful speech from a beautiful bride. The spring roll sprung and rolled. An irrepressible old man with a booming voice on one table and a tickled toddler on another. And the icing on the cake was a dragonfly. Those imploring eyes. How could anyone bear to eat it?

Hulk

June 29, 2008

Yesterday, I was at the Toy & Comic Convention in Suntec. It was SULKpacked with people, cheek by jowl, so not a place that one would want to linger. I bought this card game based on the Three Kingdoms, called Generals Order, after the person at the booth patiently explained the game to me. Did a quick sweep around the hall and saw all sorts of quirky toys. There was Breadou fake bread that looked like bread and was supposed to smell like one too. And there was Hulk, who was more ”Sulk” in this instance.

I also ate like Hulk on Saturday. Started tame: carrot cake and chicken soup at home, then 3 fitballs at the 12 x 12 Cafe while waiting for my friend. Things got wilder during dinner. The food was great…hors d’oeuvre included cheese, some ang moh lap cheong, chicken wings. This was followed by a 10-course Thai-themed dinner with Tom Yam soup, braised pork, etc. The alcohol spewed forth like the geysers in Yellowstone park: Chinese hua diao and bai jiu (53% alcohol content!),  Daiginjo sake, Mongolian horse wine and  the comparatively more standard reds and whites. I drank all that and several cups too. A personal record certainly. Think my liver and body didn’t like it so I did some barfing when I reached my home.
